Spooky season is truly upon us. Halloween presents a great opportunity for brands to have some creative fun with their latest consumer PR campaigns.
As a consumer PR agency, we are always on the lookout for Halloween campaigns that capture our attention. Whether it’s from the shock factor, a funny moment, or an original creative, here is a roundup of some of the best Halloween consumer PR campaigns throughout the years.
Temptations Cat Treats
Who would have thought cat treats could be made scary? In October 2020, the brand Temptations launched a mini mysterious movie to advertise their new catnip. Titled ‘Scaredy Cat’, the film depicts a cat’s journey through a spooky house, where all is not what it seems. Check out the consumer PR campaign below:
Fanta’s Snapchat Codes
Fanta had a frightful consumer PR strategy in 2017. To support their outdoor virtual reality experience, Fanta launched limited edition packaging with eerie graphics, designed by Noma Bar. The packaging had a QR code that could be scanned to access branded Snapchat filters and lenses, an example of which is in the tweet below:
At the time, this combination of a physical product and social media was groundbreaking. It utilised the fun side of the popular app Snapchat and made it easy for consumers to participate.
TikTok Consumer PR Campaigns
At the time of writing, #halloween has over 191 billion views on TikTok. Known for its entertaining content, TikTok is a great platform for brands to jump on a trend or season, and show their products or services accordingly.
An interesting way to do this is for brands to collaborate with influencers and let their creativity shine. This builds trust with consumers and can make them more inclined to purchase a product if they see their favourite influencer using it authentically.
A great example to use for Halloween are makeup influencers, with #halloweenlook gaining wide traction in the app.
Here are some ways that brands used this type of influencer to highlight their consumer PR campaigns.
Rimmel London
A makeup influencer is a perfect match for a makeup brand. But their content still needs to be creative, and engage a large audience with authentic content.
This is what Rimmel London did when they used @jaclynforbes, a popular makeup TikToker, to create her own cute Halloween look, all with Rimmel London products, which she showcases in the video below:
Paramount Plus
Consumers wouldn’t have thought a streaming service could team up with a makeup influencer to sell its services. But Halloween is a time to take risks and that is exactly what Paramount Plus did when they partnered with @hollymurraymakeup to showcase their programmes in a fun and creative video.

Terrifying Tesco
To finish off this ghastly affair, I will simply leave you with Tesco’s 2015 ‘Spookermarket’ consumer PR campaign.
Who knew shopping could be so frightening?
