A whopping 80,000 of UK university students run a business while they are studying for a degree. But despite this undeniable entrepreneurial spirit only 4% of young people go on to create a company capable of paying a wage or making a profit. We know, that’s a low figure right?
Recently, we helped our client Cotswold Fayre launch its annual search for the Young Food and Drink Entrepreneur of the Year.
Now in its third year, the scheme supports young food or drink business owners into the industry by providing cash support and perhaps most importantly, business mentoring from company Founder, Paul Hargreaves.
Having started Cotswold Fayre at a young age from the back of a van, Paul knows how difficult and daunting it can be to start a business from scratch. This coupled with his passion for the fine food industry has led him on a mission on to encourage emerging food and drink producers into market.
And according to last year’s winner, Chris Hannaway of Overly Drinks, the scheme is certainly helping to progress the businesses of these young individuals: “The engagement with Paul and the team at Cotswold Fayre has been very useful in helping to develop the business and in turn has helped the Overly brand to find its way forward in a crowded market.”
Every year the scheme receives fantastic entries from new vibrant brands and the Escapade team are certainly excited to see which young food or drink business comes up trumps this year!
Applications for Young Food and Drink Entrepreneur of the Year are being accepted until Tuesday June 30. So if you know anyone, aged 16-25, with a food or drink business that may be interested, make sure they apply here: http://goo.gl/sg2KCN.
