LET’S TALK VEGAN!

January 2022 is here! We are ready to tackle what might be for some a busy but exciting month. For those of you who set new goals and challenges it may be a month you want to remember (or maybe not!).

We are nation who loves new challenges and January always presents an opportunity to embrace new things. Veganism has become increasingly popular over the past few years and according to an article in The Guardian, “More than a third of people in the UK are interested in becoming vegan, according to a new poll which indicates that the number of people eating a plant-based diet has soared in the last two years.” Over the past few years, the familiar campaign Veganuary has gained more recognition than ever and seen a lot of us undertaking and adapting to a vegan lifestyle.

What is Veganuary?

“Veganuary is a non-profit organisation that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond. During the 2021 campaign, more than 500,000 people took our pledge to try a vegan diet, while more than 825 new vegan products and menu options were launched in our key campaign countries.”

“Throughout the year, Veganuary encourages and supports people and businesses alike to move to a plant-based diet as a way of protecting the environment, preventing animal suffering, and improving the health of millions of people.”

The Veganuary organisation’s Toni Vernelli said: “As more people become aware of the incredible impact our food choices have on our day-to-day wellbeing and the health of our planet, attitudes towards eating vegan are changing.”

The Veganuary website offers guidance surrounding recipes, eating guides and even ways to get involved. Initially it does seem to be a tough undertaking but with the right attitude it could be a decision that would change your decisions for the long-term.

It is important to address the broader message behind this campaign, beyond following a vegan diet it aims to encourage us to gain greater perspective of food and how the choices we make have a wider impact.

Try something new this year and let’s talk vegan!
