#GETTOKNOW VIX MELDREW

This month we’re getting to know lifestyle blogger Vix Meldrew! Known for her capsule wardrobes, chatty captions and general life updates!

When did you first set up your social channels, and what got you started?
I set them up to coincide with the launch of my blog back in 2014. I knew that’s ‘what bloggers did’ and that the best way to engage in the blogging community was through social media.

How has the digital landscape changed for you and how you share content since then?
Oh MASSIVELY. Everything used to be totally off the cuff, spontaneous and much more authentic. Nowadays it’s all about photoshop, fakery and doing things for the ‘Gram as opposed to doing things that *could* be posted about. I’m still trying to ‘keep it real’ as much as possible as the fake side of the industry doesn’t appeal to me at all but then you feel like you’re getting left behind.

What advice would you give a brand or PR representative looking to potentially work with you to create content?
I’ve recently written a mini e-book called, ‘The Brand Communication Bible’. So many brands and bloggers are unsure of how this whole thing works and often miscommunications arise. I’ve consulted brands and bloggers on the best ways to communicate but essentially it’s all about being open, honest and detailed. First the brand should approach me with a personalised message about why they want to work with me and ideally, from the outset, state exactly what content they’d need, whether it’s a gifting or sponsored basis and when they’d need it by. If it’s something I’m interested in, then we can get into the finer (and more fun) details!

What kind of projects do you enjoy doing most?
I love working for brands on campaigns that have uplifting and empowering messages. My particular favourites are when we work cross-platform on a campaign for the blog, Instagram and Twitter as each platform offers something different and worthwhile for both parties.

What advice would you give someone looking to build their social channels?
Engage with other accounts as genuinely as possible. Build relationships. It’s so important to boost each other online in an organic way – no faking!
