Halloween 2020: All Trick and no Treat?

With traditional trick or treating off the agenda for many in the UK this year, Halloween looks set to be all trick and no treat for many Brits. Or at least, Halloween is likely to be very different for those who like to celebrate in spooktacular style!

Despite lockdown measures preventing households mixing, there clearly still appears to be a thirst for some kind of Halloween festivities this year. Online retailer, Not On The Highstreet, sees some glimmer of hope, boasting an 889% increase in Halloween searches this August in comparison to last.

With most of 2020 plans up in the air, there’s no doubt that parents will be looking for alternative ways to keep the kids occupied this half term. But it’s not just for the little ones too, as lots of adults have also shown growing interest in Halloween over the years. Many will be keen to dress up and celebrate with loved ones virtually, or create that perfect Halloween look – even if it is just for a snap for the gram. So, whether pure boredom comes into play or a genuine love of all things spooky, perhaps Halloween isn’t a complete write off without trick or treating.

With less socialising this year all round, what activities will be expected to raise those spirits?

Movie night

Movie night for two? With a whole host of movie releases on Netflix this time of year, a night curled up on the sofa will be a real treat.

Virtual parties

With virtual meet ups the new norm, expect online parties complete with quizzes and spooky tunes – Thriller is a must!

Halloween décor

Halloween, but make it trendy. Instagram’s interiors influencers are taking to arts and crafts by giving their homes a spooky but stylish makeover.

Games night

For members in a household, a Halloween inspired games night may be on the cards, with apple bobbing of course.

Pumpkin patches

Pumpkin patches are becoming ever popular each year thanks to Instagram. Picking your very own and trying your hand at a bit of pumpkin carving is still a socially distanced option!
