5 APRIL FOOLS’ DAY CAMPAIGNS THAT GOT US CHUCKLING

April Fools’ Day was a chance for brands to get a bit silly and take risks.

Although there has been a recent rise in concerns of misinformation being spread online, April Fools’ Day still remains the time where pulling a light-hearted prank or bending the truth in jest is socially acceptable.

This gives brands a wider scope of creativity to think outside the box and be playful with their imagination!

Here is a roundup of some of the funniest campaigns that got us chuckling this year!

Duolingo

As a fan of musicals and Disney, I loved watching Duolingo’s promo spoof of their own version of Disney on Ice.

They pulled out all the stops to bring a creative musical show to life, and as a bonus, fans can stream the songs featured on Spotify.

Check out what musical delights are on offer in their show trailer:

Aldi

Aldi got everyone talking by posting about their new TV dating show, ‘Love Aisleland’, a funny play on the popular reality show Love Island.

After the initial excitement died down, Aldi broke fans’ hearts by revealing that the show was cancelled after not being approved by the legal team, which they shared in a cheeky statement.

See what you think here:

Gymbox

Have you ever felt bad for leaving your dog behind at home in order to go to the gym?

Gymbox has the solution for you!

Introducing Gymbarx, the dog only fitness class that not only acts as a pet-sitting service but gives your beloved dog a chance to exercise in an entertaining way!

PepsiCo

To coincide with the release of their newest crisp flavour ‘Extra Flamin’ Hot’, available across the Walkers MAX, Doritos and Wotsits Crunchy range, PepsiCo teased a new product to help with the spicy range…milk shots.

According to Marketing Beat, The ‘Not Extra Flamin’ Hot Milk’ shot will be available  “as long it takes for the British taste buds to mature to the spicy new flavour”, as stated by head of brand innovation Dalila FopsRoy.

Currys

Electrical retailer Currys launched a new service which swapped old devices for a spicy curry, called ‘Curries for Tech’.

The deal? Bring in your unwanted tech and swap it for a free curry and a £5 Cash for Trash voucher to put towards your next purchase.

Overall these campaigns received huge attention across social media, some positive, some negative, due to their inventive ideas which could only be achieved by celebrating April Fools’ Day!

By coming up with creative concepts, they got fans and consumers talking about them and hopefully remembering them for the next time they want a real product or service that they offer.
