Launched in March 2020 with just a small group of beta testers, Clubhouse is already referred to as the fastest-growing social media app in the world, largely thanks to Elon Musk who not only popped up in a Clubhouse room, he also busted through the 5,000 people per clubroom limit.
With no visuals or text, the group of Sillicon Valley investors who helped bring the app to life are hoping this app will be the next big social medium.
So, what is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is an audio-chat social network which in essence, enables you to listen in on people’s conversations, but not in a creepy way! Users can listen to discussions on various topics, and even conversations or interviews between interesting people. It is very similar to listening to a podcast but only live and exclusive!
Conversations occur in “rooms” which the speaker will open and close when they are ready to talk. Up to 5,000 people can listen in on the conversation and once it’s closed, it’s gone – similar to the way snapchat’s “snaps” disappear once they are opened.
How do I get access?
Currently the Clubhouse app is only available on IOS meaning you can download it on an apple iphone but not any android phones. Due to wanting to scale the platform up slowly, it was decided the android app would be worked on secondarily to the IOS one. This is due to there being more android users worldwide than Iphone.
Although you can download on any iphone, unfortunately you can only access the platform if you have been invited. Clubhouse app users are given only 2 available invitations to send out to begin with. The person inviting you simply needs your telephone number and that is all. If you have been invited, you will receive a text message asking you to visit their website where you will then log in with your number.
What to expect in 2021
With the goal to open Clubhouse up to people worldwide 2021, the android app is already being worked on as well as improving the servers to keep up with the demand.
According to Clubhouse’s online blog “This past week, two million people around the world—musicians, scientists, creators, athletes, comedians, parents, entrepreneurs, stock traders, non-profit leaders, authors, artists, real estate agents, sports fans and more—came to Clubhouse to talk, learn, laugh, be entertained, meet and connect.”
The app is growing fast, and it might not be long until you receive your invitation!
