Today marks National Chocolate Day; a celebration of one of the world’s most loved treats. Whether you’re a fan of the smooth melt in your mouth sensation or enjoy exploring its rich variety of flavours, today is the perfect day to indulge.
Chocolate’s journey started with the Aztecs and Mayans when they discovered the cacao trees. The beans from the cacao tree were dried and roasted to create coco beans. Europe only got to discover the delight of chocolate in the 16th century, this is when chocolate became sweetened and evolved into the chocolate we are familiar with today.
It may surprise you, but chocolate can contain some health benefits when consumed in moderation, especially dark chocolate. Dark chocolate contains antioxidants that may help reduce blood pressure, lower the risk of blood clots and improve blood circulation. As well as that, chocolate is a mood booster as it contains theobromine which releases the feeling of happiness. No wonder we turn to chocolate for comfort during stressful times.
There are endless ways to celebrate National Chocolate Day, if you are a chocoholic or someone who enjoys the occasional treat, here are some ideas to get you started:
- Try a new recipe
Why not try a new chocolate desert, perhaps a chocolate lava cake or a simple brownie.
- Support local chocolatiers
Take a trip to your local chocolate shop and support their chocolate craftsmanship
Hosting a night revolving around chocolate? Yes, no brainer. Gather your friends and family and taste chocolate and push your chocolate flavour boundaries.
Enjoy your chocolate filled day.
