WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2023

Did you know October 10th is World Mental Health Day?

Here at Escapade, we know how important it is to be considerate of every member of the team’s wellbeing. It’s not always easy to focus on our mental health in the chaos of everyday life, but it is crucial.

Mental health is such a significant part of our world today and many organisations are striving to raise awareness and normalise discussing all aspects surrounding it.  As individuals, we can take steps to become more mindful of mental health which will then lead to bigger changes within the community.

The Mental Health Foundation shared some key tips on how to approach talking about your mental health so you can support yourself and others.

Choose someone you trust to talk to

“This might be a friend, family member or a colleague. Or you might be more comfortable talking to someone you don’t know, for example, through a support helpline. It can help to do a pros and cons list about talking to someone.”

Think about the best place to talk

“It’s important to choose a place where you feel comfortable enough to open-up. You might want to choose somewhere private where you’re less likely to be disturbed. You also might want to talk while you do an activity, like walking together.”

Prepare yourself for their reaction

“Hopefully, you will have a good experience when you open-up to someone. But there’s a chance that they may not react in the way you hope. This may be for different reasons, like they may be worried or not fully understand at first.  If that’s the case, try to give them time to process what you’ve told them. It might help to give them information to read to help them understand. And don’t forget to be kind to yourself and practise self-care.”

Our mental wellbeing should always take priority but taking those steps isn’t always easy. We can’t change how mental health affects each of us, but we can learn how to tackle the challenges. So, even if you share your worries over a coffee or need a quiet walk it is important to take a moment to breathe.

Our blog A Simple Guide to Wellness gives some great advice on how to follow healthy habits which will help support your mental and physical wellbeing.
