TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE FOR VEGANUARY

The team at Escapade are excited to start the year with a fresh mindset and a whole host of new challenges. The start of the year is the perfect opportunity to take on a new challenge. Whether you want to focus on your fitness, start a new hobby or want to try a new diet, why not start now!

For lots of us January is the perfect month to try Veganism. As highlighted on Veganuary’s website,

“Veganuary is a non-profit organisation that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond. Millions of people have signed up to our one-month vegan pledge since 2014, and in 2023 alone more than 1,610 new vegan products and menu options were launched in our key campaign countries.”

Veganuary is a great way of encouraging people to transition to a plant-based diet with the intention of avoiding animal products for a month and beyond.

An article in the Daily Mail takes a look at the number of benefits of following a vegan diet, focusing in particular on the nutritional value it can add. Diets that exclude animal products typically include more fruit and vegetables which are high in fibre and rich in vitamins and minerals.

It’s important to remember that altering your diet in any way can impact your physical health so it’s crucial to be aware of changes in how you feel. Sometimes sudden changes in food choices will impact your wellbeing, and your body may need support through additional supplements to account for these.

In addition to physical benefits, changing your lifestyle can also have positive impacts on your mentality. Challenges like Veganuary are great ways of making you become a more conscious individual by taking consideration of your lifestyle choices beyond food.

If you’re keen to make a start, Forbes looks at the benefits of a vegan diet and shares what foods can be consumed. Their website lists the food products below:

  • Fruits including apples, oranges, bananas, berries and grapes
  • Vegetables like leafy greens, broccoli, carrots, peppers and cauliflower
  • Grains such as rice, quinoa, oats, barley and wheat
  • Legumes including beans, lentils and chickpeas
  • Nuts and seeds such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, chia seeds and flaxseeds
  • Plant-based oils like olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil
  • Plant-based milks like soy, almond, coconut and oat milk
  • Plant-based protein foods such as soy foods (including tofu and edamame), tempeh, seitan and plant-based protein powders
  • Herbs, spices and seasonings like basil, cilantro, cinnamon, paprika, and nutritional yeast
