From 25th July to 3rd August 2025, Love Parks Week returns – a nationwide campaign led by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, dedicated to celebrating and protecting our local parks and green spaces.
Originally created to highlight the value of parks and to support those who look after them, the campaign has become a powerful reminder of just how vital green spaces are to our daily lives – especially at a local level. For councils and businesses with a community focus, Love Parks Week presents a meaningful opportunity to connect with local audiences, encourage environmental pride, and support healthier, more vibrant neighbourhoods.
Why Community Spaces Matter
Local parks are often at the heart of community life. They’re where we meet friends, go for walks, take our children to play, join park runs, or simply pause for a moment of calm. In a world that’s increasingly digital, parks offer something essential: real, shared experiences in open, accessible spaces.
Crucially, they are one of the few places in our communities that are truly free to access – supporting inclusivity and wellbeing for people of all ages and backgrounds. They also provide environmental benefits, offering habitats for wildlife and helping to improve air quality.
As the need for connection, physical activity and accessible green space grows, particularly in urban areas, investing in and celebrating these local areas becomes more important than ever.
A Local Campaign with National Impact
Love Parks Week champions both the places and the people – from volunteers and park rangers to local authorities – who keep our parks welcoming and well maintained. It invites everyone to take pride in their green spaces, and encourages behaviour that keeps them clean, safe and enjoyable for all.
For councils and community-minded businesses, it’s a ready-made platform to:
- Show support for local volunteers and park teams
- Demonstrate environmental responsibility
- Engage with thecommunity in a positive, practical way
How Councils and Businesses Can Get Involved
Whether you’re a local authority managing several green spaces or a business with deep ties to your local community, Love Parks Week offers flexible ways to get involved:
- Organise or support a local clean-up day or community event – from litter picks to nature walks or family-friendly festivals.
- Work with local schools and groups to educate and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
- Highlight local heroes – from park staff to volunteers – through community noticeboards, social media or local press.
- Use the opportunity to share sustainability messages and initiatives with local relevance, such as reducing single-use plastic or encouraging active travel.
The Role of PR in Supporting Local Engagement
For communications teams within councils and community-focused organisations, Love Parks Week provides a timely and uplifting story hook. It offers a feel-good narrative that supports long-term goals around public health, sustainability, and civic pride – and lends itself well to local media, social content and community outreach.
By focusing on shared values like care, pride, and wellbeing, the campaign allows for authentic storytelling and genuine engagement with the people who live, work and play in these spaces.
