Leveraging Social Media During Lockdown

It has been reported by The Drum that during lockdown people have “embraced social media to the point whereby we’ve registered an unprecedented rise in screen time, a 25% increase in engagement on Instagram and TikTok in the past month and a staggering 72% increase on #ad content by influencers.”

The use of social media has hit new highs, however during these unprecedented times, what can you do to ensure your brand is adapting, and leveraging social media correctly during lockdown? Here’s some quick tips to get you started!

BE THE GOOD

There is a balance needed that sits somewhere between deserting your audience, and on the other end of the scale, appearing insensitive to the global pandemic. Brands should remain on social media, but rather than the heavy sale, look to use your channels to display the good in your brand and business!

This doesn’t mean you have to spend lots on making donations or services free of change, partially if you are a small business, but even sharing regular messages of support is a simple start.

STAY RELATABLE

During these times, don’t worry about looking perfectly polished. Everyone is living the struggles of Covid-19 to varying degrees, and it speaks more to be open about how life has changed. Share content that people can connect with.  No one is looking for perfectly polished models and props right now.

STAY ENGAGED

Why not jump on the bandwagon, and try out a TikTok challenge? Or go Live on Instagram, Facebook or YouTube? As no one is expecting perfect, now is the perfect time to try out something new!

KNOW WHERE YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE

During lockdown, messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger have increased in usage, and video chat apps like Zoom, Houseparty and TikTok have spiked. Now could be the time to assess whether your customers maybe shifting to using other platforms that could work for your brand.

BE CREATIVE

Now that no one can produce in the office or studio, everything is literally being produced in-house! Now is the perfect time to test out new Apps, filters, GIFs, augmented reality, virtual reality etc… The list is endless!
